The popularity of cloud services is because there are virtually infinite resources available at any given moment. Whether it's multiple terabytes of images or videos, huge databases or even backups, we always have the space we need. But how data is stored in the cloud is important, and there are significant differences between storage solutions. There will be files that need to be instantly accessed millions of times a day and others that will remain untouched for weeks or months. Choosing the right data storage solution also has an impact on costs, so it is worth being aware of the options available.
In this presentation, Péter Mikola will begin by discussing the theoretical background of data storage in the cloud. He will briefly touch on the issues that arise when using different data storage methods, and provide useful advice on choosing the right data storage method.
During the talk he will investigate the different properties of data storage, such as consistency, availability, and partitioning tolerance, in detail He will also highlight the differences between local and distributed data storage methods, the methods of data storage, and the practical implementation of the methods.
At the end of the presentation, Peter will describe the most commonly used AWS data storage services, such as S3 object storage, EBS block devices, RDS databases, and EFS network file systems.
- AWS services covered in the webinar:
- Simple Storage Service (S3)
- Elastic Block Storage (EBS)
- Relational Database Service (RDS)
- Elastic File System (EFS)
